Responsibilities: - Defend litigation in a designated area of California, involving occasional travel and overnight stays as needed for case appearances and team meetings. - Handle all assigned litigation and other legal matters for GuideOne and its policyholders, including case analysis, motion and pleading preparation, discovery, depositions, hearings, trials, appeals, and communication with the claims department. - Present a controversy from inception through trial or appeal while exercising independent professional judgment. - Represent a mix of commercial property, coverage disputes, and personal injury cases, including catastrophic injury and wrongful death, for individuals, corporations, and nonprofit entities. - Perform other duties as assigned, such as meetings, training, legislative updates, article writing, EUOs, SIU investigation, and corporate legal functions. - Eligible for remote work from home, requiring the ability to handle responsibilities with minimal supervision. Requirements: - Licensed to practice law in California. - J.D. from an accredited law school. - Five or more years of insurance defense litigation experience, with trial experience preferred. - Admitted to or eligible for admission to federal court. - Ability to efficiently manage a high-value case load with little to no direct supervision. - Frequent travel required, including overnight stays for a weeklong team meeting. - Prior in-house experience and CPCU or insurance-related designation are pluses.
