Position Specifications and Requirements: Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Excellent oral and written communication skills to produce clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents, reports, and correspondence. - Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse constituents. - Solid organizational and analytical skills. - Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records. - Adherence to ethical standards and guidelines for academic advising. - Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. - Demonstrated capacity to handle high volumes and work in a fast-paced environment. - Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and internet applications. - Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Desired: - Creative problem-solving skills for complex student issues. - General understanding of degree, credential, and certificate program curricula. - Knowledge of General Education and transfer requirements, with the ability to evaluate student records and transcripts. - Familiarity with academic advising theories and principles. - Understanding of enrollment management and retention best practices. - Experience with student information systems and advising-related software. - Proficiency in using virtual meeting platforms. - Familiarity with adult learning principles and higher education policies. - Competency in applying the competency-based model of academic advising endorsed by the National Academic Advising Association. Education, Experience, Certification, and/or Licenses: - Bachelor’s Degree. - 1-3 years of experience in student advising or related roles in an educational setting. - Experience interpreting and applying academic policies for student degree requirements and academic progress. - Experience resolving academic issues related to students' career and life goals. - Understanding of individual students' learning needs based on their skills, abilities, and goals. Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices, Software, Other: - Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook. - Ability to effectively use scanning and video conferencing technology. - Familiarity with standard office equipment (e.g., copier, fax, scanner).
