Controls EngineerLocation: Pontiac, MIFull Time The OpportunityWe are looking for a Controls Engineer to join our team and help develop the software and controls behind our custom test equipment. In this role, you'll take customer testing requirements and help turn them into functional, reliable test systems. You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle - from understanding how a test needs to work, through programming and integration, to debugging and final equipment validation. Because we build custom equipment, we're looking for someone who enjoys problem solving and is comfortable working through new technical challenges. Previous test equipment experience is valuable, but we also welcome candidates with a strong controls foundation who are interested in developing their skills in test systems. What You'll DoDevelop, program, test, and debug control systems for custom test machines and test equipment.Translate customer requirements and test specifications into functional test sequences and machine programs.Develop operator interfaces for test setup, operation, results, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.Integrate controls with sensors, measurement devices, instrumentation, electrical components, and specialized test hardware.Develop logic for test sequencing, data handling, pass/fail evaluation, alarms, and fault handling.Troubleshoot software, electrical, instrumentation, and machine-level issues during equipment development.Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers throughout machine design, build, and integration.Develop and execute testing to evaluate machine functionality, performance, and reliability.Analyze test results, identify problems, and develop practical solutions.Participate in machine startup, debugging, validation, and customer runoff.Maintain organized, documented, and serviceable programs.Support existing test equipment through troubleshooting, modifications, and software updates.Occasionally support equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting at customer locations. Core skills and experience:Experience programming PLC-based control systems.Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Studio 5000 / Logix Designer.Experience developing HMI applications.Experience with FactoryTalk Optix, or strong Rockwell HMI experience with the ability and willingness to learn Optix.Familiarity with electrical controls, sensors, I/O, and instrumentation.Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.Understanding of PLC programming concepts such as sequencing, interlocks, alarms, fault handling, analog signals, and data handling.Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with electrical, mechanical, and other technical team members.Ability to manage priorities and work independently when needed.Willingness to occasionally travel for customer support and equipment commissioning.Ability to commute to our Pontiac, MI facility on a daily basis. Education & ExperienceA bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred. We also recognize that great controls engineers come from different backgrounds.
