This position plans, organizes and directs work of other surveyors and technicians engaged in surveying the earth's surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapmaking, utility locations, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), land division, titles, or other purposes. Promotes safe work practices of all survey staff. Evaluates progress of the staff and results obtained and recommends major changes to achieve overall results. Represents the company in meetings and conferences with clients and potential clients. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification.The successful applicant should be a proactive communicator and change agent, someone who can successfully balance employee needs with business objectives to create integrated solutions.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesAssumes supervisory responsibility and performs as staff advisor and consultant for surveying functions and personnel managementCoordinates findings with work of engineering, right-of-way, and/or utility coordination personnel, clients, and others concerned with a projectWill determine scope of work, job objectives, and man-hour budgets on projects assigned to the surveying group in concurrence with other project managers and supervisorsMaintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical mattersResearches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveysMakes decisions independently on surveying problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences and meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate workPlans and develops surveying projects concerned with unique or controversial problems which have an important effect on firm's major projectsAnalyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in survey proposal preparationSchedules, assigns and directs projects concerning surveying within the firmPrepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveysTrain assistants and helpers and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting mapsDevelop criteria for survey methods and proceduresLead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (settingexpectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of teamPerform other related duties as assignedRequired SkillsRequired ExperienceAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometryAbility to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situationsAbility to communicate effectively with others using the spoken wordAbility to communicate in writing clearly and conciselyBachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) preferred, Field of Study: Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or similar degree type5 plus years of experience in Land Surveying and/or Professional LicensureProfessional License as Land Surveyor in Kentucky or the ability to obtain a Kentucky license; NCEESCertification preferredExperience using Trimble Instruments, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Carlson, Microsoft Office suiteExperience with KYDOT Route Surveying is preferred
